Volunteer with IMPACT

Volunteers are the heart of what makes IMPACT of the Piedmont more than just a service provider. When you show up — with your time, your talent, or your presence — you help the people we serve experience connection, joy, and a fuller life.

Whether you want to share a specific skill, support a program, or simply be present for someone who needs it, there is a place for you here.

NOW SEEKING:
Skilled Volunteers for IMPACT Forward

IMPACT Forward is our Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) day program, serving adults in Davie County who are navigating mental health challenges. We meet Monday through Friday at Farmington Community Center, and we’re looking for people with real skills and genuine interest to help expand what our participants experience each week.

This isn’t a passive volunteer role. The people in our program are perceptive, capable, and responsive to volunteers who bring something real. If you have a talent to share and you’re looking for meaningful work, we want to hear from you.

Art & Creative Expression

IMPACT Forward | Farmington Community Center | Flexible Schedule

Lead drawing, painting, collage, or mixed media sessions for adults in our day program. Projects should be open-ended and adaptable to a range of abilities and interests. You bring the creative direction — we provide the space and the group.

Best for: Artists, art teachers, retired educators, creative professionals

Book Club & Reading Discussion

IMPACT Forward | Farmington Community Center | Flexible Schedule

Lead meaningful literary conversations in a relaxed group setting. This role works best with someone who loves books and is genuinely comfortable facilitating open, non-judgmental dialogue. We’re not looking for a lecturer — we’re looking for a conversation partner.

Best for: Librarians, educators, avid readers, social workers, counselors

Music

IMPACT Forward | Farmington Community Center | Flexible Schedule

Share your musical talents with our group — whether that means leading informal listening sessions, playing live, or simply being present with music as the medium. No formal teaching experience required. Genuine love of music is what matters most.

Best for: Musicians, music teachers, music therapists, anyone with a love of sound

Movement & Fitness

IMPACT Forward | Farmington Community Center | Flexible Schedule

Lead gentle exercise, stretching, chair yoga, or light fitness sessions adapted for a mixed-ability adult group. Relevant experience or certification is preferred. The goal is movement, connection, and a sense of accomplishment — not performance.

Best for: Fitness instructors, yoga teachers, physical therapists, wellness coaches

Pottery & Hands-On Making

IMPACT Forward | Farmington Community Center | Flexible Schedule

Facilitate tactile, creative work with clay or hand-building techniques. This is one of the most grounding and engaging activities for our participants. Experience with the medium is preferred, though formal credentials are not required.

Best for: Potters, ceramics artists, occupational therapists, craft instructors

Community Outing Support

IMPACT Forward | Farmington Community Center | Flexible Schedule

Join our participants and staff on community outings — local parks, events, and destinations — as an extra set of supportive, engaged hands. You don’t need a specific skill for this role, just genuine warmth, good awareness, and a willingness to be fully present.

Best for: Anyone who enjoys being out in the community and values inclusive experiences

Additional Volunteer Opportunities

Beyond IMPACT Forward, there are meaningful ways to support IMPACT of the Piedmont across all of our programs. Whether you’re an individual, a group, or an organization looking for a community partner, we welcome you.

Event & Fundraiser Support

Various Locations | Seasonal & Scheduled

Help IMPACT bring its fundraising events to life. From our annual Harley-Davidson raffle to community dinners and special events, we need volunteers who can help with setup, guest check-in, logistics, and day-of coordination. No experience necessary — just reliability and a good attitude.

Best for: Event enthusiasts, community connectors, organized helpers of any background

Host Your Own Fundraiser for IMPACT

Your Location | Your Timeline | You Lead It

Some of our most meaningful community support comes from people and organizations who want to create something on our behalf. If you’ve ever thought about organizing a fundraiser — a dinner, a golf tournament, a bake sale, a community run, a pub trivia night — and directing the proceeds to IMPACT, we want to make that as easy as possible for you.

We’ll provide you with our organization information, tax-exempt details, and promotional support. You bring the idea, the energy, and the community connections. Together, we can turn your event into something that makes a real difference for adults with intellectual, developmental, and mental health challenges in our region.

There is no minimum. There is no wrong idea. We are grateful for every effort.

Best for: Community organizers, civic groups, faith communities, businesses, schools, sports teams, motivated individuals who want to do something that matters

Landscaping, Gardens & Green Spaces

Multiple Locations in Davie & Yadkin Counties | Seasonal & Ongoing

We have an ambitious vision: vegetable gardens and perennial garden spaces at several of our residential locations — places where the people we serve can grow things, tend things, and experience the quiet satisfaction of working with the earth.

From lending a hand at our group homes to supporting activities for the individuals we serve, there are ongoing opportunities to make a difference in everyday ways. Tell us what you’re good at and what matters to you — we’ll find the right fit.

Best for: Landscapers, master gardeners, horticulturists, garden clubs, scout troops, corporate volunteer groups, anyone who loves getting their hands in the dirt

Grant Writing & Research

Remote-Friendly | Project-Based | Ongoing Need

IMPACT of the Piedmont serves a community with significant need — and like most nonprofits, we rely heavily on grant funding to expand what we can offer. If you have experience writing grants, researching funding opportunities, or navigating foundation and government funding systems, your skills could directly translate into new programs and services for the people we support.

We welcome both experienced grant writers and those newer to the field who want to build their skills in a meaningful context. Projects can be scoped around your availability — from a single grant application to an ongoing research and writing relationship.

Best for: Grant writers, nonprofit professionals, researchers, development officers, graduate students in nonprofit management or public policy

Social Media & Digital Storytelling

Remote | Flexible Hours | Ongoing

IMPACT of the Piedmont has a story worth telling — and we could use help telling it consistently. We’re looking for a volunteer or small team who can help us maintain and grow our presence on Facebook and LinkedIn, keeping our community informed and engaged with the work we do every day.

This isn’t about viral content or follower counts. It’s about showing up regularly with authentic, person-first stories that reflect who we are and who we serve. If you understand social media, care about getting the messaging right, and want to contribute your digital skills to something meaningful, we’d love to talk.

Time commitment is flexible and can be shaped around your availability. Remote collaboration works well for this role.

Best for: Marketing and communications professionals, social media managers, digital content creators, PR students or graduates, anyone with a knack for authentic storytelling online
